In an unforeseen turn of events at the 96th Academy Awards, Emma Stone, the acclaimed actress, found herself dealing with a wardrobe mishap on stage. She humorously attributed this awkward incident to Ryan Gosling’s captivating performance earlier in the event.
A Glitch in the Glamour
While ascending the stage to receive her Best Actress accolade, Stone experienced a malfunction with her exquisite Louis Vuitton gown. The back zip of the strapless ensemble gave way, leaving the star startled and slightly embarrassed.
“My dress has given up on me. I suspect it’s due to Ryan’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ act,” she directed a playful jab at Gosling’s memorable performance of his chart-topping “Barbie” song from earlier in the night.
An Unexpected Mishap
Stone, who appeared slightly distressed over the unexpected wardrobe hiccup, managed to hold it together with utmost grace. She held the zip closure at the back of her dress in place, attempting to avert any further embarrassment.
“Looking back, I did have a nagging worry about something like this. But who’d have thought!” she confessed before proceeding with her heartfelt gratitude speech.
A Tribute to “Poor Things”
Interestingly, Stone’s choice of the mint-green gown was no mere coincidence. According to E! News correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi, the outfit was a subtle nod to the “sorbet theme” of her costumes in “Poor Things” as well as her previous appearances at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards.
All’s Well That Ends Well
Despite the wardrobe glitch, Stone’s 30-carat yellow diamond choker held its place all through the night. Furthermore, she elegantly concluded her acceptance speech, requesting the audience with a chuckle, “Do me a favor, and don’t pay heed to the back of my dress.”

The 2024 Oscars was not short of surprises. Along with Stone’s unexpected wardrobe malfunction, wrestling superstar John Cena made a bold entrance on stage, sans any clothes. The moment came when he was presenting the award for Best Costume Design, adding a humorous twist to the night.
“Poor Things” Shines Bright
“Poor Things,” the movie for which Stone won the Best Actress award, bagged four out of the eleven nominations, including Best Hair and Makeup and Best Production Design.
